Cabbage Soup Diet

The cabbage soup diet was allegedly created in the 90s for patients recovering from surgery. A watercress version is also available but most types of vegetable soup would do. Some versions claim that cabbage has unique fat burning properties this is however untrue. The weight loss is because of the low calorie contained in the diet .


During the cabbage soup diet you can eat as much cabbage soup as you want throughout the whole seven days. Some additional foods have been added to the recent versions of this diet.

Cabbage Soup Diet : Reasons for

  • You will lose weight after following this diet
  • Can eat as much soup as you want throughout
  • Diet period is only one week
  • Perfect if you have an important party to go to

Cabbage Soup Diet: Reasons Against

  • Very boring selection of available food
  • Short term side effects can include headaches, weakness and decreased concentration
  • Weight loss is mainly water and is only temporary as very little actual fat is burnt
  • Diet does not contain the body's required vitamins and mineral

Cabbage Soup Diet : Verdict

Not a viable diet for someone who needs to lose more than a few pounds and should not be followed for more than seven days an have at least two weeks before restarting (though I am sure you wouldn't want to see another cabbage for quite a while after a week). The weight loss will unfortunately only be temporary. The cabbage soup diet is however a better option than the average junk food diet and it is perfect for one-off rapid weight loss before a big occasion.

Cabbage Soup Diet Plan

During the whole week you may have as much cabbage soup as you want and the drinks throughout should preferably be water

Day 1:

Cabbage soup and as many fruits as you like except bananas.

Day 2:

Cabbage soup and as many vegetables as you like. For one meal you are allowed a baked potato with butter (no fruits today).

Day 3:

Cabbage soup and any fruits and vegetables

Day 4:

Cabbage soup and up to eight bananas and as much skimmed milk as you like.

Day 5:

Cabbage soup and for the main meal up to 450 grams of any meat or fish. You may also have six tomatoes

Day 6:

Cabbage soup and as much meat and vegetables as you desire.

Day 7:

Cabbage soup, brown rice and as many vegetables as you want. You can also have unsweetened fruit juice to drink.


Cabbage Soup Recipe

Ingredients

1 cabbage
6 green onions
2 green peppers
1 can diced tomatoes
1 bunch celery
1 pack onion soup mix

Method


Cut the vegetables into bite size pieces.
You can salute the vegetables a little in a frying pan first. Add a little salt and pepper for flavor if you want.
Mix everything in a large pot, and add enough water to cover everything.
Bring to a boil, then turn the heat down, and simmer until the veggies are soft.
Cabbage contains many nutrients, and is healthy for the body, and hence the cabbage soup recipe will do you good if you serve it once awhile with other varieties of foods.
